Masculine Energy in New York City

Masculine Energy in New York City

Hey girls! So sorry I’ve been on a little bit of a hiatus recently. I’ve been doing a lot of traveling this summer which you will probably read about in some of my upcoming posts! I encourage all of you gals to travel whenever the opportunity arises to broaden your perspectives and enlighten yourselves with how other areas of the world are living and how life is lived in different cultures. It helps to see the world and your life in an entirely different light and gain an appreciation for what our Earth has to offer us.

Anyways, I’ll write more on that later. This post is dedicated to how masculine vs. feminine energy can envelop a certain place or city and the effects it can have on your own life and overall feeling of wellbeing. In this case, I am writing about NYC. Ah NYC – what a wonderful place it can be for those who are looking to pursue their career dreams, get out of their small & slow-paced suburban neighborhoods, pursue their goals and date as a single New Yorker and party with the city that never sleeps! That’s what I moved to NYC for: to pursue my dreams in PR, hustle & party in the city that never sleeps, and last but not least, find love.

Everyone warned me about the city and it’s downfalls though: the traffic, the hustle & overall fast-paced lifestyle, the aggressiveness of all New Yorkers; the subways…; the cost of living and how you can’t find an apartment in your price range next to where you work but instead you had to look outside of Manhattan in order to live in a small shoebox of a space to ride an hour-long weird subway ride where you can’t make eye contact with people or else you either get yelled at or danced for with a boombox on a pole – fun right? But hey, it was all worth it just to be called a New Yorker and work amongst the big guys pursuing their careers during the day and living the life at night as if it’s your last. One thing did weird me out though, the fact that many did warn me about women not being able to find love in New York. In a city of so many men, and where men are pursuing their career dreams (assuming to make it big, buy a house & car, move to the suburbs, settle down and make a good living for themselves with a wife & family, right?- wrong.) you would think that finding love would be easier.

One of the biggest problems with NYC (of which we fail to realize) is that in order to make it big, you’ve got to adjust to the fast-paced rhythm of it all. Unfortunately everything about this city is masculine energy: the energy defined by “doing”, “going after goals”, “aggression”, “moving quickly” etc. Men will typically thrive in this type of environment, but generally you need a balance of both masculine and feminine energy in everyday life. So if a man is mostly masculine, he will seek out opportunities to thrive in feminine energy (one of the most popular is being surrounded by nature). However, women have a much harder time to thrive in the city, because in order to be successful, you need to embrace your masculine energy. For women though, being in masculine energy too much and too long will make us feel burnt out, frustrated and miserable if we are not tapping into our feminine energy (same goes for men on the flip side – i.e. men too much in their feminine). A balance is needed. What most women in NYC tend to do is embrace this masculine energy and lose sight of their feminine energy. At this point, they are miserable and burnt out; polarities in energy between the opposite sex are mismatched causing no attraction to be formed and it’s a strong reason why most of the women in New York are unable to find and maintain long-lasting love.

Well, this is my theory at least. But what I do know, is that the masculine energy is high and evident here. If you go to Europe, let’s say Italy (which I’ve seen first-hand twice this summer) you will find that the body language at restaurants for instance is completely opposite. In Italy, everyone takes their time, they enjoy and savor each and every bite of their food or sip of their drink, they lean back in their chair and relax and enjoy. In the meantime, New Yorkers rush off to coffee shops while on their cellphones, they chase after subway trains, they lean forward in conversations and are awaiting eagerly for the check. The difference is clear between the energies.

What I hope that you ladies do find helpful is to recognize these energies and to always maintain your own balance so that you can live happy, thriving lives in whatever city you choose to because if not realized, it’s easy to become consumed in one energy or the other which can have repercussions in our own well-being and sense of self.
